Marshmallow root also known as Majagüilla in Cuba & Dominican Republic has been used for centuries as a natural remedy to help soothe and heal the body. In Ancient Egypt, marshmallow root was used for its medicinal properties to treat a variety of ailments, from coughs and sore throats to urinary tract infections. Native Americans used marshmallow root for its healing and medicinal benefits as well, including to help treat wounds, heal skin conditions, and reduce congestion. 
Marshmallow root candy was used in ancient Egypt as a type of confection! They extracted the sap from the mallow plant and mixed it with nuts and honey.This type of candy would have likely been consumed in small amounts as a treat or a medicinal remedy.
