Medicinal Folk Uses: Traditionally used to support healthy circulation, cardiovascular functioning, high blood pressure, chest pain, hardening of the arteries, and heart failure. Additionally, Hawthorne berry is considered energetically slightly warm, associated with the spleen, stomach, and liver meridians, and reflects both sweet and sour tastes. It stimulate bile and gastric secretions, aiding in the digestion of stagnant food in the GI tract, especially that which is rich in fats or protein. They also contain various organic compounds that interact with gut flora to improve the digestion of nutrients.
Tea is made by steeping 2–3 teaspoons (10–15 grams) of the herb in 1 cup (250 ml) of hot water for ten to fifteen minutes. People can drink three or more cups per day.
