Magical Folk Uses: Traditionally used for purification rituals; used to cleanse and consecrate a space. Hyssop has been hung in homes to provide protection from the evil eye, and maleficent people. It has also been planted frequently on graves as protection for the dead from the living.
Medicinal Folk Uses: Traditionally used to aide digestion, aide in digestive and intestinal problems including liver, gallbladder conditions, intestinal pain, intestinal gas, colic, and loss of appetite. It is also used for respiratory problems including coughs, the common cold, respiratory infections, sore throat, and asthma. Hyssop purported antimicrobial and antiviral properties.
Tea is made by steeping 2–3 teaspoons (10–15 grams) of the herb in 1 cup (250 ml) of hot water for ten to fifteen minutes.
